Iwilei homeless center mystery continues

Iwilei shelter 4

It’s been more than two months since Mayor Caldwell announced grand plans for a new state-of-the-art homeless center in Iwilei but refused to provide a timeline to explain when the center should be expected to actually open.

There’s been no clear progress, unless you count allowing street-dwellers to take over the sidewalk in front of the site as a good thing.

Will this plan actually come to fruition?  Is it stalled?  Or is he just planning a grand announcement closer to the November 8 election for obvious political reasons?

Governor Ige has extended the so-called state-of-emergency over homelessness once again, so it’s hard to understand why things aren’t moving faster and people aren’t asking more questions.

And demanding straight answers.
