Whatever happened to Waianae housing for homeless?

It’s been more than ten months since Mayor Caldwell announced plans to build transitional housing for homeless people on a lot across Farrington Highway from Waianae High School.

It actually sounded pretty good.  Some folks liked the idea, some didn’t, and some felt the housing should be built somewhere else.

The city went ahead and bought the property and then just sort of stopped talking about it.  It’s become another one of the many homeless crisis mysteries.

How many times have we seen this?  Officials announce big plans, mess them all up, leave everyone guessing, then it all just fades away and the problems don’t get addressed.

Meanwhile, Waianae still has an enormous homelessness problem that people are just kind of solving on their own with elaborate illegal encampments while officials turn a blind eye.
