Thomas Square used to be home to a few old drunks who were mostly viewed as a minor annoyance. Then the obnoxious protesters and homeless-by-choice types came and turned it into a circus. Then the city cracked down and finally placed a bunch of planters along the sidewalk to force the protesters off. They finally left, and nobody misses them.
But now the city has big plans to reconfigure Thomas Square and possibly open it up for more commercial uses, and some are crying foul.
I’m not sure how to feel about this. It’s a very nice park, but it had become a disaster area.
Unfortunately, I don’t trust the mayor enough to believe he would renovate the park well and protect public access.
