Today (Thursday, July 14) is the last day for eligible voters to register to vote in the August 13, 2016, primary election. Those who don’t register will have until October 10, 2016, to register to vote in the November 8, 2016, general election.
Qualified voters can register online.
You can even vote by mail.
The election for Honolulu mayor will be held on August 13, 2016, with the primary election.
If no mayoral candidate receives more than fifty percent of the vote, the two candidates who received the most votes will face off again on November 8, 2016, in the general election.
There are three major candidates running for mayor, and eight others who aren’t nearly as popular.
I’m very disappointed in our current mayor, but the other candidates haven’t done much to convince voters that they would do any better on the issue of homelessness. Maybe that will change as we hear more and voice our concerns. Maybe it won’t.
If Honolulu’s homeless crisis and future are important to you, make sure you register to vote and make all the candidates know how you feel.
